What I collect

When you buy the Practice Kit: your name, email address and phone number. Card details go to Stripe and I never see them.

When you start the free practice walkthrough: your email address, the pieces, speeds and notes you save in the practice journal and metronome, and which steps of the apps you use and when.

If you ask for a reminder on the walkthrough: the time you choose, where you'd got to and your piece's name.

When you apply for a call: your answers to the application questions.

During a call: notes I make about your playing and your goals.

Why I use it

To deliver the Kit you bought, to arrange your call and remind you about it, and to prepare for and hold the call. The legal basis is the contract between us and the steps you ask me to take.

I'll also email you about getting the most from the Kit and about my coaching for self-taught pianists. Every email has an unsubscribe link, and you can opt out at any time. The legal basis is my legitimate interest in following up with customers about similar services. If you sign up for the free practice walkthrough, I'll send your sign-in link and the walkthrough's next steps, plus occasional tips and offers for self-taught pianists, because you agreed to that when you signed up. You can unsubscribe at any time.

When you start the walkthrough, I save how far you've got (the step you reached, your piece's name and your safe speed once you find it), whatever you choose on the cookie banner. That's part of the service: it decides which follow-up email you get, so I never send you the next step before you've done the one before, and it lets the button in an email take you back to where you stopped on any device. Each email's button carries a code that tells me which email you clicked, so I can stop any reminders still due and send the right email next.

If you ask for a reminder, I'll email you at the time you choose and, if you haven't come back to it, once a day for up to two more days. Use the unsubscribe link in any email to stop them.

My emails note whether they were opened, only so I can tell which emails help and whether they're reaching inboxes, and so I can improve them. Every email has a “Don't track whether I open these” link: press it and I stop recording whether you open them (you'll still get them).

Cookies and usage data

Some things are stored on your device because the site can't work without them: your practice journal, your sign-in, and your cookie choice. These don't need your agreement.

Without asking, this site sends anonymous counts of how it's used, so I can make the free apps and the Kit pages work better: which buttons are pressed, which notes are named and how quickly, speeds chosen, which page you're on, roughly which kind of device, and which advert or email brought you. No code that could pick out you or your device is kept for this, and it isn't linked to you or your account. When you sign up, I also note which advert or email that visit came from. You can turn the counts off on this device below.

If you accept the cookie banner, two more things happen:

If you reject, or don't choose, neither happens. If you accept and later change to reject, the code and Meta's cookie are deleted from this device. Your choice is kept for six months, then you're asked again.

Who else handles it

Stripe takes your payment. Netlify hosts this site and stores application answers; Supabase also notes that you applied (your email and when), and counts visits to the Kit page, so I can count applications and visits. Supabase stores your practice journal, sign-in and walkthrough progress, so they work on any device. Resend delivers your sign-in links and the walkthrough's follow-up and reminder emails. Kit sends my other emails. Calendly handles bookings. Google provides my email and video calls. Meta measures advert results. Each handles your information under its own privacy policy. I don't sell your information or share it with anyone else.

How long I keep it

Purchase records are kept for six years, because HMRC requires it. Application answers and call notes are deleted 12 months after your call, unless you become a coaching client. If you use the free practice walkthrough, your account, practice journal, walkthrough progress and app usage are deleted 12 months after you last use them. A reminder is deleted 12 months after it was sent, and a record of which email you clicked after 12 months. Usage data that isn't linked to an account is deleted after 12 months. Your email stays on my mailing list until you unsubscribe.
